Manchester United’s latest signing Bryan Mbeumo has revealed his early exchanges with Ruben Amorim ahead of his decision to reject other Premier League clubs for Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo has spoken about his move to Manchester United, playing at Old Trafford and his discussions with manager Ruben Amorim in an interview as he prepares for his United debut.
The forward chose United over Premier League rivals Newcastle and Spurs, despite their Champions League status, in a lengthy transfer saga throughout the summer transfer window.
His faith in the Amorim project is evident. After a stellar season last year, the 25-year-old will hope to continue his stunning form in Manchester.
United set their sights on Mbeumo, secured his signature earlier this month, and now work to build his fitness levels as the first game of the 2025/26 Premier League season grows near.
Mbeumo praises the United project
“There is a very good project here in Manchester, and I wanted to be a part of it.” were the Cameroonians’ words in an interview with the Daily Mail. Mbeumo focuses on what may lie ahead, as he says, “I think I’m someone who likes a challenge”.
Mbeumo spent six years at Brentford, achieving promotion with the Bees in 2021, and recording an astounding goals and assist tally last year, showing he knows the true meaning of working hard.
As Amorim and the club enter their first full season together, the pressure starts to build as the fans will start expecting results. Mbeumo is a step in the right direction in that sense.
Earning his impressive market value, Mbeumo accomplished his move to Old Trafford after an extensive transfer saga. “You want to play on the greatest stages in the world, and Old Trafford is one of them. So being able to play there every two weeks is just big,” he added.
The United faithful will be encouraged by his optimistic attitude, and will hope to see him match fit ahead of the first Premier League fixture against Arsenal in mid-August.
Mbeumo says Amorim was deciding factor
Mbeumo has revealed how his exchanges with new boss Amorim have had a positive effect on his thoughts of the new challenges ahead in Manchester, and how he swayed the Cameroonians’ mind in choosing his next destination.
‘I’ve spoken with Ruben. It was a very friendly conversation and a constructive one. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do, and I really clicked with that,” continued the 25-year-old.
Mbeumo seems to be in favour of the project, however daunting it may be. Despite a poor league finish last year, Mbeumo already speaks of ‘winning’ at United, “we are people who like winning and we want to be the best team”. Of course, that’s what we will try to do.”

The effect of a manager during transfer negotiations cannot be understated. Amorim succeeds in man-management, and the club and he prevail in securing their transfer targets. Despite the attraction from other clubs.
Mbeumo hints at this in his interview. “Of course, I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects, but the Manchester United one was very good for me.”
Mbeumo traveled with the squad to America last week as the club starts the Premier League Summer Series. Despite not featuring in the squad against West Ham on Sunday, expect to see him representing United on the football pitch soon.
