Bryan Mbeumo has reacted to the news that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford for his signing this summer.
After securing the signing of Matheus Cunha early in the transfer window, Manchester United swiftly shifted focus to Brentford standout Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international is coming off an outstanding Premier League campaign, netting 20 goals. Once United registered their interest, Mbeumo made it clear he favoured a move to Old Trafford over competing offers from Newcastle and Tottenham.
United initially saw bids of £55 million and then £62.5 million rejected by Brentford, leading to prolonged negotiations.
However, David Ornstein broke the news on Friday afternoon that the transfer saga has now reached its conclusion: United’s latest proposal of £65 million, plus an additional £6 million in performance-related add-ons, has been accepted.
The deal is now fully agreed, with Mbeumo expected to join Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States next week.
Mbeumo reacts to United agreement
One of the biggest reasons United fans have been so eager for this deal to go through is the clear enthusiasm Mbeumo has shown about joining the club.
The 25-year-old reportedly turned down offers from Champions League sides, making it clear that Old Trafford was his sole destination of choice — exactly the kind of commitment supporters love to see from a new signing.
Mbeumo’s excitement was evident when he liked Fabrizio Romano’s signature “Here We Go” post about the move on Instagram.
Adding to the buzz, Cunha also liked the post, suggesting the Brazilian is already looking forward to linking up with Mbeumo in Manchester.
Both players scored a combined 35 goals in the Premier League last season, which was just nine less than United’s entire squad.
Mbeumo and Cunha immediately improve United
United have spent significant sums on Mbeumo and Cunha – £133.5 million to be exact – but it is very different to their lavish spending in recent years.
This is not the £72 million for an inexperienced Rasmus Højlund or the £70 million on the past-his-best Casemiro but instead two players who are guaranteed to improve United’s quality while also being in the prime years of their careers.
Mbeumo at 25 and Cunha a year older provide enough experience while also being able to still grow and develop as players. They are at that perfect age which United have seemingly ignored in many recent windows.
Amorim will be looking forward to using them both next season as the club aim for major improvements from the disaster last term.
