Bryan Mbeumo was on the score-sheet twice for Manchester United against Brighton, but he was full of praise for three teammates who played a crucial part in the goals.
An impressive 4-2 victory saw Rúben Amorim’s side secure three points in the Premier League against troublesome opponents, Brighton.
Former Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo scored twice at Old Trafford as United claimed their third consecutive win in the league for the first time under Amorim.
Manchester United went into the game on a high following an iconic 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool at Anfield: their first victory there in almost a decade, and United fans were hoping to build on this back at Old Trafford against Fabian Hurzeler’s side.
Mbeumo was quick to show appreciation towards his teammates’ performances as the winger shared the spotlight after his impressive display.
Mbeumo highlights Man Utd trio in brilliant Brighton victory
Mbeumo told MUTV, “I think it’s great teamwork as well, Benji [Sesko] gave me a top ball and then Ayden [Heaven] and Bruno [Fernandes] for letting it go for me.”
The United players combined smoothly in the build-up to Mbeumo’s goals. Šeško held up the ball perfectly with a neat flick to get away from Van Hecke, then found the Cameroonian, who reversed his effort into the near post.
In the final minutes of the game, Mbeumo sealed all three points after substitute Heaven pounced onto a heavy clearance, sliding the ball towards Fernandes, who brilliantly let the ball run through into the stride of Mbeumo, who struck the ball past Verbruggen and into the back of the net off the crossbar.
Heaven, playing his first substantial minutes in the league this season, was involved straight away and did not disappoint the United fans.
Fernandes, like always, was everywhere throughout the game, creating chances and winning fouls for United to see the win all the way to the final whistle.
Mbeumo’s successful start to Man Utd life continues
Today saw Mbeumo make it three goals in two games as he continues to play a crucial role in Amorim’s side following his big-money move from Brentford.
The 26-year-old oozes class on the ball and has provided United with relentless energy since he arrived in Manchester. He will continue to prove to be a vital factor in this Manchester United side.
Today, he deservedly secured the title of Player of the Match after his impressive brace.
“I think both of them [are his favourite goals]”, he said.
This United attack offers such a threat, not only from the short, intricate passing, but from long balls, distance and crosses. Amorim will continue to look to utilise this as they next look towards Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.
