Bryan Mbeumo has had a strong start to life at Manchester United this season and he has earned an exciting comparison to a Premier League legend.
Manchester United have had a mixed campaign so far which has seen Michael Carrick replace Ruben Amorim as the club’s head coach.
The team’s goalscoring has improved since last season, with the Reds having scored 38 goals in 22 Premier League games so far. Only Manchester City and Arsenal have scored more times.
That suggests that United’s summer business is paying off after they spent around £200 million on the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Šeško and Matheus Cunha.
While there are still improvements to come from Šeško and Cunha, United have benefited from Mbeumo’s strong form in front of goal, with eight goals so far this season.
Mbeumo earns exciting Premier League striker comparison
Mbeumo was the man who scored the opening goal against Manchester City in Carrick’s first game. It was a clinical finish after Bruno Fernandes’ through-ball.
He was playing through the middle of the attack while Amad played as the right-winger. In a four-at-the-back system, things will likely stay like that more often than not.
The 26-year-old does have some great attributes to play as a no.9 and even earned comparisons to Premier League legend Didier Drogba this week.
Drogba’s eventual replacement at Chelsea, Diego Costa, was recently asked by John Obi Mikel which current player reminds him of the Ivory Coast star.
He responded: “The guy from Man United, from Cameroon. Bryan Mbeumo.”
Carrick will use Mbeumo upfront more
It would be handy for United if Mbeumo could continue thriving through the middle as it is clear that you need to find places in the team for both him and Amad.
Carrick was complimentary of both players after the City clash. “We wanted to play to our strengths,” he said. “The two wide lads, Amad and Dorgu, were fantastic both ways, [as were] Mbeumo and Bruno [up front].”

Of course, there are also players like Šeško and Cunha who want to start games, and Mbeumo or Amad could be used on the left flank in some games.
But it would not be surprising to see Mbeumo operate in those central zones more often in the second half of this season, as he is certainly the player you want chances falling to inside the box.
