Manchester United are not expected to fly either André Onana or the potential new signing Bryan Mbeumo to Sweden as Rúben Amorim’s Reds face Leeds in pre-season.
Manchester United are set to kick off their pre-season schedule with a clash against Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden.
Following a 15th-place finish in last season’s Premier League, the Reds have lined up a strong set of fixtures to prepare for the 2025/26 campaign, including four matches against fellow top-flight English clubs and a home game at Old Trafford against Fiorentina.
Head coach Rúben Amorim will be aiming to make an early impact as he begins putting his stamp on the squad.
After facing Leeds, United will head to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, where they’ll take on West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
Supporters will be particularly eager to tune in for the Leeds match, which could offer a first glimpse of new signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon in action.
Onana and Mbeumo not expected to fly to Sweden
United’s squad are expected to fly to Sweden on Friday afternoon to face Leeds United, with the majority of Amorim’s first-team squad due to be on the plane.
The entire pre-season training squad will depart for Stockholm later this week, although it is unlikely that André Onana will be within this group.
Although the goalkeeper is expected to remain with the side for pre-season despite his hamstring injury, it’s unlikely that the club will risk him by flying him to Sweden when he isn’t playing and no training sessions are taking place.
Similarly, while fresh reports suggest that United continue to work on negotiations to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brenford and hope for a breakthrough this week, it is claimed that United are eyeing for the winger to join the squad in the United States, signalling that he is unlikely to fly to Sweden if he signs this week.
As for who plays, almost every player will likely be given minutes against Leeds, with Amoirm likely to field two separate starting XIs in the first and second halves of the tie.
This will give fans a chance to see some of United’s other exciting young talents, such as Shea Lacey and Chido Obi, alongside new signings Leon and Cunha. Lisandro Martínez will likely miss out as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
