Bruno Fernandes’ two demands revealed to stay at Manchester United beyond 2026

Bruno Fernandes has reportedly become disillusioned at Manchester United, and with his contract expiring in 2027, the club will have to spend big to keep their captain.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes attracted strong interest from the Saudi Pro League but ultimately remained at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese international was reportedly offered a staggering £700,000 per week to make the move, yet chose loyalty over a lucrative exit by committing his future to United.

Under Ruben Amorim, Fernandes was deployed in a deeper role, prompting suggestions that he was unsettled, though those concerns eased following Amorim’s dismissal and a return to his preferred attacking midfield position.

Despite having a fairly quiet game against Arsenal, he still had a major role to play, providing the assist for Patrick Dorgu’s wonder goal five minutes into the second half.

Man Utd would have to break the bank to keep Fernandes

According to The Mirror, Bruno Fernandes is considering his future at Old Trafford, having become disillusioned with the club’s project.

The outlet reports that United’s captain will wait until the end of the season before deciding what’s next for his career. Although he’s reportedly been impressed with Michael Carrick’s impact, he’s waiting to see who the next permanent boss will be.

While Champions League qualification would certainly sweeten any potential deal, the outlet also states that the club would have to offer Fernandes a deal in the region of £400,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest-paid player.

With Casemiro set to leave the club at the end of this season, the club will be releasing some on a reported £400,000-a-week, making them more financially flexible.

Fernandes back to his best

Despite playing the majority of this season in a deeper role in Ruben Amorim’s midfield pivot, he has still notched five goals and leads the Premier League for assists with 10, three clear of second place.

Considering how ever-present the Portuguese maestro has been, having an excellent injury record, a potential departure would leave a huge hole in the United squad.

While Fernandes’ quality and output would be a huge problem to fix, this season, it has been seen that if Fernandes has a rare off day, it’s not the end of the world, as has been the case in the past.

Now, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad, the captain no longer has to single-handedly drag his side to victory, and with the 31-year-old’s value only going to decrease from now on, it unfortunately may be a good time to part ways with the captain for a substantial fee and re-invest in a quality replacement.
