Bruno Fernandes has revealed a surprising relationship with a Manchester United staff member who he “always” tries to learn from.

Last week, Manchester United announced that Bruno Fernandes has signed a new three-year contract, committing to the club until at least 2027.

Currently serving as captain under Erik ten Hag, Fernandes is undoubtedly United’s most influential player and is poised to lead the team through a crucial season at Old Trafford.

Since joining the club four and a half years ago, Fernandes has made over 230 appearances, scoring 79 goals and providing 67 assists. He is highly regarded by both his teammates and manager.

This admiration was highlighted in a short video shown to Fernandes, where the club asked Erik ten Hag, along with several squad members, staff, and fans, to describe the Portuguese midfielder.

A snippet of Darren Fletcher’s message was shared: “Bruno, my friend. I mean this when I say it: no one deserves this more than you. I watch you day in and day out since I’ve been at the club. You set the example, you train hard.”

When asked about those messages, Fernandes explained his happiness about receiving compliments from those outside of the playing squad.

“All of them stood out, but for me, the thing that stood out [the most] is when you see that it’s not only the people there with you in the dressing room,” he told club media.

“It’s the people that work here at the training ground, the people from the play care, the team manager, the ones from the staff.”

The midfielder highlighted the message from Fletcher, who is regularly on the grass at Carrington with the squad and explained his relationship with the former United player.

“The message from Fletch probably is one of the ones that touches a little more because he’s been talking with me a lot during this time,” added Bruno.

“I think he is one of the people that I like to talk to and like to learn from him because he’s been successful at the club.

“He’s been part of a big success of the club, so he knows what it needs to get that success; it’s always a person that I always try to speak and learn from him, and I think that those words – I think it was meaningful because he’s been saying that to me since the day I have been with him at the club.

“That I deserve to be here; that I’m a proper Man United player, so it touches a little bit because it’s from someone that has achieved a lot.”
