Bruno Fernandes was ‘shocked’ at Manchester United summer transfer after great pre-season
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was ‘shocked’ at one piece of business the club made during the summer transfer window.
Bruno Fernandes signed a new long-term deal at Manchester United in the summer after INEOS took charge at Old Trafford.
The club captain was rumoured with a potential exit but wanted to stay as long as the new leadership wanted him involved.
He also would’ve clearly wanted to be in alignment with their vision for the coming years, with the 30-year-old keen to win the big trophies in the prime of his career.
United acted in the summer transfer window with five major first-team signings, including Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte, worth over £200 million and many sales were also made.
One of those deals included the exit of talented midfield player Maxi Oyedele, who left to join Polish side Legia Warsaw.
It was a move that included a sell-on clause, buyback clause and matching rights clause. This means that the Reds could bring the 19-year-old back to the club.
However, it was a somewhat surprising move considering the Academy graduate’s talent level. He impressed during the latest pre-season and the exit was not one that Fernandes agreed with.
According to Legia Warsaw boss Goncalo Feio, Fernandes told him that he was shocked the club were letting Oyedele leave.
“The quality on the ball, the personality, the character to keep the ball, the choices, when to lead, play with one touch,” said Feio about Oyedele as per The Mirror.
“It is no coincidence that Bruno Fernandes, when we spoke to him, said he was shocked that United were letting him go, because he looked great in pre-season with Manchester.
“The level at which he plays is also related to the number of duels won in the central zone. His physical maturity, motor skills and ability to use his body are at a high level.
“Although I know that the fans and probably you, journalists, like what he does with the ball the most, Maxi gives us a very big physical presence in the midfield.”
