Bruno Fernandes sends clear message to Patrick Dorgu as Manchester United prepare third bid

Bruno Fernandes has sent a clear message to potential Manchester United signings as the club prepare a third bid for Patrick Dorgu.

Manchester United are eager to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad with new signings before the January transfer window closes.

Addressing the wingback position has become a key focus, as Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have struggled to adapt to the demands of the role.

Patrick Dorgu remains United’s primary target, though the club has had two bids rejected, including their latest offer of £25 million.

Reports suggest the Italian club is holding out for at least £34 million, while the 20-year-old has remained composed amid the ongoing transfer pursuit.

It has been claimed by Fabrizio Romano that United remain interested in the Danish international and Ben Jacobs suggests a third bid is on the way.

Dorgu, 20, will be joining a club in a very difficult situation and when you’re a new signing in situations like that, fans will hope that you can help turn it around.

United have major problems at wingback right now and so the young star will be expected to make an impact on the flanks.

The pressure will be high and Bruno Fernandes knows all about that. He was the man to turn the club’s fortunes in the 2019/20 season when he joined in January.

Fernandes has recently explained that any player who plays for the club has to have ‘the balls’ to deal with the pressure that comes with it in what will be a clear message to potential new signings like Dorgu.

“The reality is to play here you have to have that pressure, you have to have the balls to play for this club — that is what it is,” Fernandes told reporters.

“You have to feel that in every moment in every game it is a new chance to bring us back to the position we deserve.”

Of course, that is something that has to be instilled into the current playing squad, but also something all new signings have to be aware of.

Dorgu is a young, promising player but will undoubtably face issues if he decides to make the move to Old Trafford.

It is how he deals with those setbacks and pressures which will show whether he can be a long-term success at the club.

The transfer deadline comes in just over a week’s time on February 3, 2025. United will be hoping to get more than the one deal over the line.
