“Very upset…” Bruno Fernandes reveals Rúben Amorim’s half-time Manchester United message vs Everton
Bruno Fernandes has revealed what Rúben Amorim told Manchester United’s players at half-time before the finale of their Premier League draw against Everton.
Manchester United staged a spirited second-half comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Everton, with Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte on target to secure a point for Rúben Amorim’s side at Goodison Park.
Everton dominated the early exchanges, pressing United aggressively and taking the lead after just 20 minutes when Beto capitalised on sloppy defending to score his fifth goal in four matches.
Their advantage doubled ten minutes later as Abdoulaye Doucouré muscled past Harry Maguire to bury a rebound after André Onana’s initial save, leaving United with a mountain to climb at half-time.
United showed more composure after the break but remained second best for large spells. However, with 20 minutes remaining, Bruno Fernandes produced a moment of magic, bending a stunning free kick into the net to pull one back. The comeback was completed soon after when Manuel Ugarte rifled home a brilliant strike to level the score, setting up a tense finale.
Late drama unfolded when Matthijs de Ligt brought down Ashley Young in the box, seemingly gifting Everton a penalty in the dying moments. But after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, ensuring United escaped with a hard-fought point.
What Amorim told United players at half time
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Fernandes has revealed that, at half-time, Amorim told his team that they must stick to the initial game plan they worked on that week despite the two-goal deficit.
“Sticking to the plan. The manager was very upset with us,” the club captain revealed after the game when outlining what Amorim said.
“We had to try and stick to the plan and to try and make it work. Even if things are not going well, we have to stick to what our ideas are, and that is what we did in the second half; we had much more freedom, much more movement.
“We were 2-0 down and had nothing to lose, and we got more into the game.”
Fernandes not happy with first-half performance
Further, the Portuguese international explained that he felt his team were too static during the first half, allowing Everton to steamroll them.

“We had our chances in the second half but the problem was we started the game too late,” Fernandes said. “We gave away the first half.
“We were too static and it was difficult to create some situations. We need to start the games better, we know that.
“We spoke at half-time about how we can’t, every time we concede a goal, be down. It is the only time that we start. We need to start games like that.
“We are in a situation where we need to win games and create chances to score goals.”
