Bruno Fernandes admitted that Manchester United players are not playing to the right standards following their FA Cup win over Coventry City.

Manchester United managed to sneak their way through to the FA Cup final against Coventry City following a penalty shootout win that had fans fearing the worst.

After being 3-0 up with 20 minutes to go, Erik ten Hag‘s team collapsed entirely, conceding three goals before the end of regulation time.

Thankfully, United prevailed in the shootout, but Bruno Fernandes has admitted that even if United win the FA Cup, this season will still not be successful.

“We’ll never be successful if we win [only] the FA Cup,” he explained to ITV after the tie. He also said that he thinks United aren’t performing to their standards.

“The standard of this club is much higher than what we have been doing. We have to do better in the league, the League Cup and in Europe.”

Coventry scored a goal in extra time to win the game, but VAR ruled it out as offside. Fernandes explained that he feels United put themselves in their own difficult position.

“When they scored a goal [in extra time], we thought it might be offside; we couldn’t tell from the front.

“We put ourselves in a difficult position and should have killed it earlier, but we didn’t. We have to do so much better.”
