Bruno Fernandes’ ‘biggest disappointment’ this season revealed after Manchester United ‘petulance’

Bruno Fernandes has been slammed as his biggest disappointment this season is explained following underwhelming displays for Manchester United.

Manchester United have endured a tough start to the season, winning only three of their first ten matches. Players like Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martínez have faced heavy criticism, with manager Erik ten Hag also under fire. However, in Fernandes’ case, his reactions have been notably hasty.

Known for his fiery temperament, Fernandes has generally managed to stay just within the boundaries when dealing with referees. But his recent actions cost him dearly in matches against Tottenham and FC Porto.

During the clash with Spurs, after losing his footing while attempting to tackle James Maddison, Fernandes caught the player’s shin. Referee Chris Kavanagh promptly showed a red card, with VAR upholding the decision.

Only days later, the Portuguese midfielder received two yellow cards for separate high-foot challenges against FC Porto, further compounding his disciplinary woes.

Speaking via The Mirror, former Liverpool star James McAteer has slammed Fernandes for being a disappointment so far this season, although he did recognise that the player’s environment isn’t catered to him.

“I think Bruno Fernandes is a fantastic talent, he’s just in the wrong environment,” said McAteer.

“I want to see more from him and more maturity from him. Manchester United are in turmoil right now and you need your captain to demonstrate proper leadership in these types of situations.

“He’s so petulant. He should be setting an example. There’s a lot of really good young players in that United team.

“Bruno Fernandes needs to be setting an example, and getting sent off in consecutive games is not the example to set. It’s been a really difficult period for Manchester United.

“They’ve started the season terribly. I’m really disappointed in Bruno Fernandes’ contributions in games and how he’s behaved.

“That’s not how a Manchester United captain should be showing his attributes or behaving. His attitude and performances, considering the role he has at a giant of a football club in Manchester United, have been the biggest disappointment for me in the Premier League this season.”
