Bruno Fernandes has defended both Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro after the pair made several errors in Manchester United’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Both Mainoo and Casemiro had poor games, with the pair making massive individual errors for each of Liverpool’s three goals.

Taking up a position in front of Mainoo and Casemiro for the Liverpool defeat, Fernandes, the Manchester United captain leapt to the defence of his two teammates, despite the errors they made in the game.

“Case is more experienced than me, so I don’t need to tell him anything,” Fernandes informed Sky Sports. “He knows what football is about and he knows he is going to get something now after the game.

“He’s played for the two best clubs in the world, so he’s used to that. It’s not going to be a problem for him having to deal with that.”

Casemiro’s performance saw the Brazilian midfielder substituted at half-time, with twenty-year-old Toby Collyer making his Premier League debut off the bench to replace the five-time Champions League winner.

Collyer, alongside Christian Eriksen, were the only two midfielders on the Red Devils’ bench, with new signing Manuel Ugarte not registered in time to make the squad for Sunday’s game.

Turning his attention to Mainoo, Fernandes emphasised that he didn’t want the young Englishman to dwell on his mistakes.

“Kobbie, is an excellent kid,” Fernandes stated. “[He] works a lot, works hard, wants to be on the ball, and is really brave. So, I want him to have more time on the ball, I want him to try more and do these kinds of plays, because it’s part of his game and he’s strong.

“I don’t want them to stop and now think about their mistakes or something they did, they don’t need to. They’re huge players for us and they will continue to be.”

The midfield pairing of Mainoo and Casemiro has started each of United’s four games this season, including the Community Shield defeat to rivals Manchester City.

Sitting in fourteenth place in the Premier League going into the international break, United will next travel to face recently promoted Southampton on the 21st of September.
