Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire were both furious with one Manchester United man during the latest loss against Chelsea.
Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in their final Premier League away match at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
Despite the upcoming Europa League final next week, Ruben Amorim opted to field a strong United side, determined to see his team compete at a high level.
While United have struggled in the Premier League this season, they were the better side in the first half, creating chances but failing to convert. Harry Maguire appeared to have broken the deadlock with a superb finish, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
Chelsea eventually broke through midway into the second half with a well-worked goal, and United were unable to mount a comeback as the match slipped away.
Fernandes and Maguire furious with United teammate
The game at Stamford Bridge was not one with tons of chances but once again United conceded from questionable defending.
While Reece James’ turn and cross was top play, it was hard to not notice how easy it was for him to evade Alejandro Garnacho, who was fresh after coming off the bench.
In fact, according to the Manchester Evening News, both Bruno Fernandes and Maguire were furious with the Argentine for his lack of intensity in that moment before the goal.
“Fernandes moaning at Garnacho after Cucurella’s goal. Maguire also having a pop at him,” Samuel Luckhurst, MEN correspondent, wrote on X.
The worst part is that Garnacho was not tired, he was lazy. He failed to have any real impact on the game and was labelled as “terrible” by United supporters.
Garnacho won’t start Europa League final
Garnacho is the only player who really offers pace in behind for United but it feels like Amorim is going to favour Mason Mount in the final next week.
But that doesn’t mean that he won’t be able to have an impact in Bilbao. In that game, a positive impact from the bench will be crucial.
There will be space against Spurs’ backline but the team will need to be switched on defensively throughout the game. Casemiro will be needed for the entire 90 minutes.
Whilst it was Garnacho who was highlighted for his action in the goal, Manuel Ugarte also had a poor cameo coming on for his Brazilian partner on Friday night.
