Brilliant Manchester United star praised for causing “all sorts of problems” for Liverpool defender in 2-1 win

During Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool, one star caused all sorts of problems for one Liverpool player throughout the game.

Manchester United sealed a stunning 2–1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, as Rúben Amorim’s side claimed a vital three points at Anfield.

United made a blistering start and took the lead inside two minutes when Bryan Mbeumo fired home brilliantly from a tight angle after being released by Amad. The visitors continued to dominate the early exchanges, and Bruno Fernandes came close to doubling the advantage but failed to convert a clear chance.

Amorim’s men went into half-time with a narrow lead, although Liverpool came out strongly after the restart. Cody Gakpo rattled the post early in the second half, signalling the home side’s intent. Around the hour mark, Amorim introduced Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Benjamin Šeško to inject fresh energy into the team.

Liverpool’s pressure finally told when Gakpo levelled from close range with just over ten minutes remaining. However, United responded immediately as Harry Maguire rose highest to head home and restore the lead.

Arne Slot’s men pressed furiously in the closing stages, but United’s defence stood firm to secure their first triumph at Anfield since January 2016.

Amad caused problems all game

Having missed the away trip to Brentford due to a family bereavement, Amad returned to face Sunderland, with Amorim praising him for his “very good” performance after some questions towards his slow start to the season.

The Ivorian international carried that momentum into this clash against Liverpool, being instrumental in United’s quick opener. After picking up the ball, he quickly drove towards Liverpool left-back Milos Kerkez before beautifully playing in Mbeumo to score within two minutes of kick-off.

This turned out to be a sign of things to come for the battle down Liverpool’s left flank, with Amad being a constant thorn in the Hungarian left-back’s side.

At half-time, former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp spoke on the battle between the pair, saying: “Kerkez is a nervous wreck out there. Amad has caused him all sorts of problems.”

Huge weight lifted off of Amorim’s shoulders

Having not won at Anfield for almost a decade, United have finally managed to get all three points away to Liverpool.

Leading up to the game, Luke Shaw revealed that the dressing room had been speaking about ending their side’s unwanted record of not winning back-to-back games since Amorim took over.

The fact that the players were outspoken on the matter goes to show how much that unwanted record had been playing on their minds, and now that this record can finally be put to bed, both Amorim and his men can finally push on.

United’s next Premier League fixture comes on the 25th of October, when they host Brighton, who sit just one point behind them in 10th.
