Brentford have now made a significant step as they prepare for life without Bryan Mbeumo despite rejecting Manchester United’s opening bid.
Manchester United have made an electrifying start to the summer transfer window, launching a formal bid for Bryan Mbeumo just days after sealing a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In another major boost, club captain Bruno Fernandes has confirmed he will remain at Old Trafford this summer, turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
Following Cunha’s arrival and Fernandes’ commitment, United have shifted their attention to Mbeumo, who has already expressed his desire to join Ruben Amorim’s side.
The Red Devils tabled an offer of £45 million, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons, for the Cameroon international. However, Brentford have rejected that initial proposal.
Brentford make significant Mbeumo exit step
United are planning to come back in with another offer for Mbeumo and while Brentford are looking to stand firm in their stance, they are aware that a deal will eventually come about.
That has now been shown in their actions in the market, with the Bees having already identified their preferred replacement for Mbeumo.
TeamTALK have reported that Brentford are the frontrunners to sign Nicolas Kuhn from Celtic, with the winger viewed as the ‘ideal replacement’ for their star man.
It was added that the London club have been ‘scouring the market’ for players after they became aware of Mbeumo’s desire to move to Old Trafford.
United will need to adjust add-ons for Mbeumo deal
Despite that initial bid being rejected, this doesn’t feel like a transfer that will take too much time and that is partly down to Mbeumo making his feelings clear.
United might have had trouble if any sort of bidding war emerged but that is now very unlikely after the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle were made aware that Mbeumo prefers United over them.

The total package of the first rejected offer was £55 million and it is unlikely that United will need to offer any more than £10 million extra.
But the amount of add-ons, or how easily they will be achieved, are probably the sticking point for Brentford and the aspect of the offer which United will need to adjust to make a deal.
