BREAKING: Ruben Amorim confirms 23-man Manchester United squad to face Lyon in Europa League clash

Ruben Amorim has named a 23-man squad for Manchester United’s first-leg tie against Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Manchester United could have secured all six points from their last two matches if they had been more clinical in front of goal—but instead, they had to settle for just one.

Ruben Amorim’s side won’t have time to dwell on those missed opportunities, with a crucial Europa League quarter-final against Lyon on the horizon.

With their Premier League campaign offering little to fight for, the Europa League now stands as United’s most promising route back into European competition next season.

Having finished third in their group, the Reds progressed by beating Real Sociedad 5-2 on aggregate in the round of 16. Impressively, they remain the only unbeaten team left in the competition.

A sterner challenge awaits in the form of French outfit Lyon, but Amorim’s men will be confident in their ability to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Mainoo returns for United vs Lyon clash

Kobbie Mainoo, who has been injured in recent weeks, was spotted in United training on Wednesday afternoon and has travelled to France with the squad.

Amorim has also included Jack Moorhouse and Jayden Kamason in the travelling squad for this game, alongside Harry Amass and Godwill Kukonki.

André Onana is joined by Altay Bayındır and Tom Heaton in the goalkeeping department. The Cameroon international has caused controversy with some recent comments on Lyon.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are with the squad again as they look to reach full fitness after recently returning from injury.

Matthijs de Ligt has not travelled with the squad after not being spotted in training. The Dutch defender suffered a knock against Nottingham Forest.

The full 23-man United squad can be read below.
