Manchester United are reportedly ‘willing to pay release clause’ for their main summer target, Matheus Cunha, as the negotiations have entered the ‘final stages’.
As has been widely reported recently, Manchester United are set to delve into the attacking market this summer, in a bid to try and take the Red Devil’s back to where they belong.
Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit in a dismal 14th place in the Premier League, and their 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth on Sunday took their goal tally to 39 for the season – set to be their lowest ever league tally.
Despite scoring the late equaliser to salvage a point for Amorim’s side at the weekend, it has been clear that Rasmus Hojlund’s goalscoring isn’t of the standard required to improve this United side. His goal against Bournemouth was Hojlund’s fourth of the season.
Alongside Hojlund, the rest of United’s attackers have also provided lacklustre returns so far, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee only combining for eight league goals all campaign.
Cunha heading to United
In an attempt to improve United’s lack of attacking potency, Amorim’s side have recently been linked with the in-form Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
The 25-year-old has scored 15 goals in the league this season, all from open play, with six assists as well. This incredible form in a bottom half side has led to many teams circling the Brazilian, with United looking to be the ones to secure his signature.
Wolves’ main man has a release clause in the region of £62 million, and it is being reported by Brazilian outlet Globo that United are willing to pay this release clause, and that “negotiations are in the final stages.”
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team will be hoping to acquire the services of Cunha as quick as possible, to allow Amorim as much time to prepare for the new season as possible.
How will United line-up with Cunha?
With the signature of Cunha nearing ever closer, we also start to near closer to what could be an exciting time for United as we start to look at how they may set up as they aim to climb back up the table.
In Amorim’s 3-4-3 outfit, Wolves’ Brazilian maverick would be almost nailed on to play as the left ten, with Amad Diallo most likely to partner him. The question then becomes, who leads the line?

United have been linked with a host of strikers so far, but it remains unclear which direction they will take. Certain names that have been linked with a move to Manchester have included Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen.
Despite what has been an incredibly poor campaign for Amorim’s side, the new week starts with some exciting news for the red’s as they aim to make the most of this summer to change the club’s fortunes.
