Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola completely agrees with Ruben Amorim about ‘very smart’ Man Utd star

Bournemouth’s manager Andoni Iraola has completely agreed with Ruben Amorim’s assessment about a ‘very smart’ Manchester United player.

Manchester United’s Premier League campaign has lacked momentum so far, reflecting the wider inconsistency across the division, yet they remain only six points adrift of second-placed Manchester City.

Rúben Amorim’s side have produced notable performances, including victories over Liverpool and Crystal Palace, but have also let points slip in fixtures they were expected to control, highlighted by a disappointing home draw with 10-man Everton.

Individually, several players have made a strong impression. Bruno Fernandes continues to be a driving force and recently registered a goal and two assists against Wolves.

Bryan Mbeumo has impressed as the club’s top scorer with seven goals, while Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount have also drawn praise for their contributions.

Iraola agrees with Amorim about ‘very smart’ United star

Mount is one player who looks to be approaching his best form, with three goals in his last four starts for United. He was named Man of the Match in the win over Wolves.

Amorim’s admiration for the midfielder is no secret. He has previously claimed that he is perfect for the system he deploys and he labelled the English star as a ‘very smart’ player earlier this week.

When speaking to the media, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola offered a similar assessment of Mount, also calling him a ‘very smart’ player who analyses the game well.

“Mason Mount is a very smart player. He always takes up good positions. I think he understands and analyses the game really well, to take up spaces on the pitch that he can exploit better,” he said.

“Sometimes he plays higher, sometimes lower, sometimes wider, sometimes inside, and obviously, there is a reason he does that. Then he is also a lovely player on the ball if we allow him a lot of time.”

Mount needs to continue promising form

Mount is the kind of player that managers love, and he will be hoping to start against Bournemouth on Monday evening.

It is unlikely that Benjamin Šeško is going to be in the squad so Matheus Cunha could stay centrally to allow Mount to play from the left side.

His pressing and intensity has been impressive ever since he signed, but the midfielder seemed to lack sharpness to impact the game in key areas.

Now he is fully fit and getting some rhythm, we are starting to see how Mount can contribute in the final third and it would be great to see him continue his promising form with another goal.
