Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has had a difficult loan spell at Chelsea and now wants to re-join Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.
When Jadon Sancho signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2021, it was one of the club’s most anticipated additions. The Reds were chasing his signature for a number of years.
Four years later, and most United fans view it as one of the worst signings in the club’s recent history. Sancho was underwhelming up to the point he was exiled from the first-team squad under Erik ten Hag.
He moved on loan to Borussia Dortmund for the second half of last season and signed for Chelsea on another loan this term, with the London-based club having an obligation to buy Sancho for £25 million in the summer.
However, news emerged earlier this month that the Blues could pay a £5 million fee to get out of their agreement with United to take Sancho permanently.
Dortmund issues clear response to Sancho’s transfer request
Sancho’s time at Stamford Bridge started well but he has since been underwhelming for the club and that seems to be why these rumours have surfaced.
Following on from this, it was claimed by Bild that Sancho has submitted a transfer request to his entourage to facilitate a move back to Dortmund this summer.
Sancho’s best moments in his career so far have come in the Bundesliga and he has claimed that he sees Dortmund as a second home.
However, it has been revealed by Sky Germany reporter Patrick Berger that the German club will not be prioritising any deal for Sancho in the upcoming window.
This is due to the “insane amount of money” it would cost in terms of transfer fee and wages, as well as the fact that they are already stacked in the winger positions.
“He’s not Borussia Dortmund’s priority, and certainly not the position,” Berger stated on his latest podcast episode.
“You have Duranville, you have Adeyemi, Gittens — of course, you don’t know in terms of perspective, he’s part of the silverware, whether he’ll leave the club at some point.
“But you have Beier, who can play there. You don’t have the need for that position right now.
“It’s not a hot topic at the moment, because it would obviously be an insane amount of money. Of course, the situation surrounding Jadon remains interesting and will be monitored.”
Amorim’s admission about Sancho
Ruben Amorim is yet to work with Sancho, who had already left on loan by the time the Portuguese boss arrived at the club in November last year.
While some have claimed that the 25-year-old might actually be a good fit for Amorim’s tactics, others have pointed towards Amorim’s insistence on intensity and work-rate, things that aren’t often seen in Sancho’s game.

When asked about the prospect of Sancho returning last month, Amorim admitted that the player is “not my problem”, suggesting that a return to Old Trafford under his leadership is unlikely.
“I don’t know,” Amorim responded. “I’m just focused on my players and my problems. Sancho is not my problem.
“No, no. I’m really focused on this season. We have a lot to do and a lot to improve. We need to win games and then we will see next season.”
