One Manchester United target has made it clear why he wants to sign for Rúben Amorim’s side despite interest from other Premier League clubs.
Manchester United’s summer overhaul has begun at pace, with Rúben Amorim wasting no time in shaping the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf will depart when their contracts expire, while Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told he is free to find a new club. Rasmus Højlund is also on the market should the right offer come in.
The club are planning to offload Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, aiming to raise over £100 million in player sales to support Amorim’s rebuild.
The new head coach is targeting signings in key areas—particularly in attack and midfield—with an emphasis on improving the squad’s technical quality and physicality.
Amorim is determined to assemble a team better suited to the intensity and athleticism of the Premier League, with United backing an aggressive approach in the transfer market.
Cunha made his feelings on United clear
Matheus Cunha is set to join the club in the next few days as he undergoes his medical ahead of a £62.5 million move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, with United failing to qualify for any sort of European football next season, many have questioned why the Brazilian would choose to sign for Amorim’s side, considering that the other clubs interested in him, such as Arsenal, are all in the Champions League.
But, as Cunha has reportedly made very clear, he is joining United because he sees the club are one of the biggest in the world, and that he “loves” the club.
“The important thing is, if you’re a United fan, Matheus Cunha really, really wants to come to Manchester United,” football transfer specialist Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports.
“We were telling you last week, even if they don’t make it into the Champions League, he still thinks United are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“A couple of months ago, we were told that he loves Manchester United. It’s one of his dreams to play for Manchester United, and it looks like his dream is about to come true.”
Cunha is very keen to work with head coach Amorim
Aside from his clear love for Manchester United, Cunha has been open in expressing his interest in working with the club’s head coach, Amorim.
While he is still under contract with Wolves, he was asked about Amorim by Portuguese media, where the 26-year-old was keen to praise his future head coach.
“Talking about him is easy, I think he’s a great coach and I wish him nothing but the best,” Cunha said when asked if he had spoken to Amorim ahead of his summer move. “I hope he conquers the world as he did Portugal.”
Cunha was then asked whether they would ‘conquers the world’ alongside the 40-year-old head coach. “Well, God willing, we’ll always do our best to help,” he smiled.
