Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, has sent a classy message following the announcement of Bryan Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United.
Manchester United have officially announced Bryan Mbeumo as their third signing of the summer, as Ruben Amorim continues to strengthen the club’s attacking options.
Despite Mbeumo committing to the move early in the transfer window, protracted negotiations with Brentford extended over six weeks before a deal was finalised. The transfer will see United pay a guaranteed £65 million, with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons.
The 25-year-old joins the squad at Carrington, following the earlier arrivals of South American duo Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
Mbeumo is expected to take up the role of United’s starting right forward, while Amad is likely to begin the season at wing-back as he eases into the squad during pre-season and beyond.
Brentford director sends classy message after Mbeumo announcement
Following on from United’s announcement of the move, Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, broke his silence on the transfer.
Giles, who admitted he’d be happy to keep the player earlier this month, has now wished Mbeumo well at ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ and also said that he would always be welcomed back to their stadium.
Mbeumo made 242 appearances for the West London club since his arrival in 2019 and during that period he scored 70 goals and registered 51 assists.
“On behalf of everyone at Brentford, I would like to wish Bryan all the best for the future and thank him for his fantastic efforts over six seasons with us,” said Giles.
“Bryan came to us as a teenager, and it has been an absolute pleasure for all of us here to watch him develop as a player and a person. Our fans have loved him, and he has been a part of some of our greatest days.
“There is always a right time for a player to move on and, for Bryan, that time is now. He has the opportunity to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world, and we are very happy for him.
“Bryan will always be welcome back at the Gtech. We look forward to seeing him in September and whenever our paths cross in the future.”
United not happy with Brentford over Mbeumo negotiations
Despite this classy response, it is being reported that United are not entirely pleased with Brentford’s conduct during the negotiations for Brentford.
According to ESPN, the view at Old Trafford is that Brentford’s valuation changed repeatedly and at one point it was as high as £70 million plus £7 million in add-ons.

That report also mentioned that the Bees wanted Mbeumo to reject his dream move to United to move to Newcastle or Tottenham Hotspur instead.
Mbeumo stood firm, however, and is now prepared to prove his worth under Amorim going forward, and the supporters at Old Trafford are delighted about it.
