Bernardo Silva vows to break Bruno Fernandes’ £100m Manchester United admission
Bernardo Silva has vowed to break a promise Bruno Fernandes made to Manchester United fans during the recent international break.
Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva have been smashing life for Portugal recently, with the national team winning all 10 of their EURO 2024 qualifying games and the Manchester United club captain involving himself in 14 goals across those fixtures.
While life under Erik ten Hag has been less than comfortable for all United players, Fernandes has thrived under Roberto Martínez and was recently waxing lyrical about his young national teammate, João Neves.
Neves has exploded onto the European scene for Benfica this season, performing well at the Estádio da Luz, and Fernandes admitted that he would love to have Neves alongside him at Old Trafford.
“I would love to have him at United, he has top quality,” Fernandes said. “But he’s an excellent player and an excellent kid, very professional. He will have a bright future wherever you go.
“I would really like to have him by my side because he has quality and will have a bright future. It depends on him. What I want most is the best for him.”
Bernardo Silva, however, has other plans, vowing to make sure that Neves transfers to Manchester City over Old Trafford.
“If I can, I’ll make a move for João Neves to go to Man City instead of Man United, of course,” Silva told B24.
Neves has a release clause in his contract of £100 million, displaying just how much of a talent Neves is, and how much it may cost for the young midfielder to take the same steps as many before him from the Primeira Liga to the Premier League.
