Benjamin Šeško ‘to undergo further tests’ after Man Utd injury as “extended period” claim made

Manchester United are reportedly set to conduct further tests on Benjamin Šeško’s knee following an injury last week.

Manchester United’s latest Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur saw Slovenian international Benjamin Šeško withdrawn by head coach Rúben Amorim after he picked up a knee injury.

The forward entered the pitch in the second half of the contest, but he was forced off again in under thirty minutes.

Following the injury sustained on Saturday, the Slovenian national team’s staff have raised concerns about how the club communicated details regarding Sesko’s condition.

Their frustration has prompted the Football Association of Slovenia to intervene as tensions between the two sides continue to escalate, with Sesko at the centre of the dispute.

Šeško injury latest explained

While initial reports earlier this week stated that United were set to issue a statement on Šeško’s injury ‘soon’, confirmation never came, which has led to concerns that the injury may be a little more serious than initially anticipated.

According to a report from FootballInsider on Friday, after initial testing earlier this week, the club chose to have the striker undergo a second round of scans.

Since then, a second, more recent claim from FI has stated that there are concerns that Šeško could spend an “extended period” on the sidelines amid United’s increased schedule next month.

However, the report also stresses that a final judgement on the striker’s injury has yet to be reached, which will likely come at some point early next week.

Amorim has two tactical decisions to make

Regardless of how long Šeško is unavailable for, the extent of the tests indicates that he will not be fit when United welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Monday, 24 November.

The last time United faced Everton in Manchester, Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice under Amorim. While the former has since left on loan to Barcelona, the latter could find himself handed his first start of the season against David Moyes’ men.

Zirkzee has been left out of every starting XI of the season, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Šeško, Amad, and Mason Mount all preferred. Still, with the Slovenian almost certainly unavailable, the 24-year-old could finally get his chance up front.

However, there are still other decisions that need to head his way for this to happen. While Zirkzee is one option to start up front, Amorim could still instead choose to play Cunha through the middle and Mount on the left, with Mbeumo on the right flank instead.

Amorim must make two choices: Does he think United would be better served playing with a taller target man or with a false nine, and will Zirkzee be able to deliver what’s needed, considering his lack of minutes so far this season?
