Benjamin Šeško sent Manchester United goalscoring demand as pundit praises ‘very talented’ striker

Benjamin Šeško has scored two goals for Manchester United so far this season after moving to the club in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United entered the summer transfer window with the clear aim to improve their forward line after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign.

Premier League-proven forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were acquired while the Reds recruited Benjamin Šeško from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Šeško, 22, had been on the radar at Old Trafford for a number of years and Christopher Vivell, head of recruitment, pushed the deal over the line.

The young striker has played 11 games for the club now, although only seven of those have come from the start. He has scored two goals and registered one assist.

Šeško sent United goalscoring demand

Šeško has needed to adapt to the Premier League and his new team and in recent weeks we have seen some positive signs in his performance levels.

While improvements are still needed, the Slovenian striker has many of the attributes you need to become a reliable goalscorer.

That is also the opinion of former German midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who has suggested that Šeško should be aiming to regularly score 20 to 25 goals every season.

“I think he found it hard at first. It’s a different game in England compared to Germany,” Hamann said of Šeško’s start to life at United when speaking to footballblog.co.uk.

“But he’s a very talented player. He was always very confident and he’s got a lot of belief in his ability. But then when you come to a club where things are not great, it’s difficult for a striker.

“Confidence is a big thing, and poor morale at a club doesn’t help. I think he’s done okay so far, but we certainly haven’t seen the best yet because he’s an exceptional talent.

“People in Salzburg said at 16, 17, when he came to the club, he was better than Haaland. Obviously that’s not the case at the moment, but I think potentially he could be a player who scores 20, 25 goals every season.”

Šeško does not have to shoulder the goalscoring burden right now

Šeško would do very well to hit 20 goals in his first season at Old Trafford. It is an unlikely tally considering the lack of European football this term but it is also not required right now.

The additions of Cunha and Mbeumo alongside the striker in the summer has allowed United to share the attacking burden across the team and there is not a reliance on the striker.

Mbeumo is already looking sharp in front of goal while Cunha will be hoping to contribute more after bagging his first United goal recently.

Šeško will be desperate to score more goals but it is also important that he helps the team through his link-up play and ability to stretch the opposition backline. That will help United score more goals, even if he’s not always the player finishing off the chances.
