Benjamin Šeško has sent a clear message to Rúben Amorim as Manchester United prepare to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend as Rúben Amorim takes his side into a derby clash with Manchester City.
Both managers have endured slow starts to the season. United have registered a win, a draw and a loss, while City also sit on three points from three matches, leaving them down in 13th place.
The upcoming derby is a chance for either team to find momentum and deepen the struggles of their rivals in what has been a turbulent opening to the campaign.
The last meeting at the Etihad saw United pull off a dramatic turnaround, with late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad sealing a memorable 2-1 victory just before the new year.
Šeško issues clear message to Amorim
The last few weeks have seen some of United’s key players jet off to international duty with their respective countries, and one man who very much benefited was new striker signing Benjamin Šeško.
The 22-year-old has made four appearances for United so far, three off the bench in the Premier League and 90 minutes against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. With the young striker still getting up to speed after a disjointed pre-season, he played 90 minutes twice with Slovenia.
This is a major boost to his fitness, and according to reports from Slovenia, he wasted absolutely no time getting back to Carrington.
Slovenia’s squad were reportedly given a day off following their two international fixtures, but Šeško declined and flew straight back to Manchester.
He reportedly headed for the club’s training base for training ahead of the Manchester derby, in a clear indication to Amorim that he wants to be back with the squad in time to start the fixture on Sunday afternoon.
It would be strange if Šeško did not start
With Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount possibly injured for the tie, there is now a space up front for Šeško to finally start his first Premier League fixture. As pointed out by The Athletic’s Manchester United correspondent Laurie Whitwell, it would be “strange” if he didn’t.
“Is that Amorim wanting to wait for him to adjust to English football and the connections he needs with his teammates in the attack?” asked Whitwell when discussing Šeško’s three appearances off the bench.

“Is it loyalty and fidelity to Mason Mount, who has started the season really well?
“But the injury to Mount now and the injury to Matheus Cunha does really raise the prospects of Šeško starting this game. It would be strange if he didn’t start now.”
When asked whether he believes Šeško will start, Whitwell added: “I think so, particularly if Cunha and Mount are injured, I just don’t see how he doesn’t.”
