After scoring a late equaliser against West Ham on Tuesday, Benjamin Sesko has given fans an insight into his journey during the latest episode of Manchester United’s ‘Inside Carrington’.
Manchester United drew 1-1 against West Ham United on Tuesday, extending their unbeaten run under Michael Carrick to five games. Despite a disappointing performance overall, a late equaliser rescued a point for Carrick’s side which could prove to be vital in the race for Champions League qualification.
United were saved in injury time thanks to a brilliant first-time finish from Benjamin Sesko after the Slovenian was brought on to replace Matheus Cunha. United had struggled to break West Ham down for the majority of the game but Carrick’s late gamble paid off.
A disappointing point in the grand scheme of things, but although a draw means one less haircut for a particular United fan, Carrick’s side are unbeaten since he took over, earning 13 points from a possible 15. They are also now unbeaten in their last nine Premier League matches with their last defeat coming against Aston Villa on 21st December 2025.
Keen to continue this positive streak, United will spend plenty of time on the training ground ahead of the next match against Everton on the 23rd February, due to a weekend full of FA Cup action which United will be absent from. Sesko has quietly built up a strong case to start in the next game and Carrick could opt to start with a true striker in United’s next outing.
Sesko wasn’t always a striker
In the most recent episode of ‘Inside Carrington’, Sesko hilariously revealed that his first position as a kid was as a goalkeeper.
“I started as a goalkeeper, when I was a really young age. But then one game I said, I remember, I looked at my father in the middle of the game, I said, ‘father, this is so boring. I don’t have anything to do in the goal,” Sesko told the club media.
“It was hard for me to see, like, people, like, teammates playing up there [who] couldn’t score a goal…
“There was also times when I was a goalkeeper, I took the ball, went through whole pitch and then scored a goal. It’s like, yeah, it was really a nice journey.
“And then I started as a centre-back and then I went up to striker.”
It seems Sesko has always had a hunger for scoring goals since a young age, and we are starting to see his goalscoring abilities more often in a United shirt.
Sesko’s promising start to Utd career
Sesko was United’s third signing of last summer’s transfer window, when he was signed from RB Leipzig for a fee of £66 million.
At just 22 years of age, the young Slovenian inherited a position that has suffered a lot of scrutiny over the years, with many trying and ultimately failing to live up to expectations. That same summer, United cut ties with Rasmus Hojlund who had only been at the club for two years.

So far in a United shirt, Sesko has had to bide his time to cement a starting spot in the team. It hasn’t been the easiest of starts and Sesko has had to adapt to the league but there has been glimpses of real potential that is clear for everyone to see.
He has stayed professional at all times and showed lots of resilience, resulting in a tally of seven goals already during his first campaign in England. His best goal so far was undoubtedly his most recent against West Ham, and United fans are hopeful the Slovenian can produce many more magical moments in a United shirt.
