Benjamin Sesko has identified three former Manchester United strikers who have inspired him as a player, including his ‘idol’, whom he dreams of meeting one day.
After completing the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United looked to complete their fresh-faced front three with the addition of a striker.
Having endured weeks of negotiations, Ruben Amorim’s side eventually decided on the 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils had Newcastle for competition, but fortunately, they were able to pip the Magpies to the signing of the Slovenian forward, with United being his preferred destination, with his debut set to come against Arsenal next weekend.
Sesko signed for United last week for a fee in the region of £66 million plus add-ons. In one of his first interviews as a Red, the 6ft 5in striker spoke about his three former United inspirations, including his ‘idol’.

When asked by club media which United strikers he most admired, Sesko was quick to mention Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who spent just shy of two seasons in Manchester under Jose Mourinho.
Speaking to United’s website during his official first interview, Šeško said: “Since I’ve been small, I’ve been watching him, every single YouTube video I can find, because he is amazing for me.
“We don’t have the same, let’s say, character, but I like to see the way he plays, the way he enjoys football. If you enjoy football, then everything works.
“It’s just basically been my dream to one day meet him, that would be great. In general, he’s my idol. (I’ve been) trying to take some stuff from him, especially some similarities with high kicks and power strikes.
“We are not the same, we have different playing styles but if there is any situation I try to do like he did.”
Sesko’s three United inspirations
In addition to Ibrahimovic, Sesko also highlighted two other former United talismans whom he admires and how he aims to bring success to the club in a similar manner.
The Slovenian forward said, “For me, it’s [Robin] Van Persie, [Wayne] Rooney, all those kinds of guys. I’ve been watching them on videos. They’ve been great.
“I can admire them a lot and show myself in a good light here and try to help the team, help the club to be as high as possible.”
Clearly, Sesko wants to follow in the footsteps of the greats who led the line for United in the past, and if he is able to emulate anything like what these three legends did, then he will be sure to succeed as a Red Devil.
