Benjamin Šeško injury update given as “sooner than” Manchester United return timeline outlined

Benjamin Šeško could be returning to Manchester United action soon amid Rúben Amorim’s need for options during AFCON.

Benjamin Šeško’s time at Manchester United has not quite gone to plan, with the Slovenian striker currently nursing a knee injury.

After his £63 million move from RB Leipzig in the summer, the 22-year-old started life slowly, but soon picked up form and scored goals against Brentford and Sunderland while putting in a brilliant display against Brighton.

However, at the beginning of last month, Šeško then suffered a knee injury during a 2-2 draw against Tottenham, and was sidelined.

United head coach Rúben Amorim said at the beginning of December that he expected the striker to return at the same time United’s Africa Cup of Nations trio of Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui depart in mid-December.

Šeško’s agent issues injury update

Speaking on Slovenian television, Šeško’s agent Elvis Basanović offered the latest on his client’s injury status, providing a positive update.

“Benjamin is feeling very well. His rehabilitation is progressing according to plan,” Basanović explained.

“It’s hard to say precisely when he will return. That will be up to the medical staff and the manager, but I think we’ll see him back on the pitch very soon. Maybe even sooner than expected.”

United’s next fixture is a game against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on 15 December, the day Premier League players are reportedly due to depart for AFCON. If Šeško does not make this tie, he could be in line to play against Aston Villa on Sunday, 21 December.

Basanović urges patience for Šeško and Amorim

While Šeško is well-liked by United’s fans, the club’s loyal supporters are a little more split on Amorim himself amid a series of inconsistent results and losses to the likes of Brentford and Everton.

However, Basanović was quick to comment he feels United will be challenging for elite trophies in a few years, but that Amorim and his staff must be given time to do so.

“I believe that within the next two years, United can challenge for the very top spots,” he continued.

“Ruben is an excellent person with fantastic charisma. He is extremely intelligent, emotionally intelligent. He knows what he is doing.

“I believe it’s not easy to build such a project, one that requires an enormous amount of patience. United is one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world.”

“He is a very honest person. A good man, everything he does, he does with good intentions. He is also exceptionally professional, and I believe he is an outstanding coach. He has his own vision and knows how to bring United back to the top.”
