Benjamin Šeško has agreed with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo on what the best pathway to becoming a Manchester United player is.
Manchester United are on the verge of signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško, as Rúben Amorim prioritises strengthening his forward line.
The club have lodged a bid worth £65 million, with an additional £9 million in add-ons, in an effort to secure their top striker target ahead of the new season.
Newcastle also pushed hard for the 22-year-old Slovenian, but after United agreed personal terms with the player, it became clear where his intentions lay.
Talks with Leipzig are still ongoing, but a full agreement is expected to be finalised in the coming hours or days.
Cunha and Mbeumo worked to join United
In recent seasons, United have adopted a general policy of signing young players with significant potential who can develop into stars at Old Trafford; however, for the most part, this policy has failed to deliver.
With Amorim now at the club, he has instead demanded that those signing for United this summer are players who can hit the ground running, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both having vast Premier League experience already.
However, another link the two forwards share is that they both signed for United around the time they turned 26 years old and had to work their way up and across Europe to join the club, honing their skills as players before earning their chance to join a team like United.
It’s a break from tradition at the club, bringing in proven players instead of young talents, and it’s also a type of message and pathway appreciated by Šeško.
Šeško agrees with Cunha and Mbeumo’s path
Šeško’s name has been mentioned in footballing circles for years, with his move from NK Domžale to RB Salzburg in 2019, while other major clubs attempted to bring him in during that period.
The next time Šeško was on the market was when he moved from Salzburg to their sister club RB Leipzig in 2023, rejecting the chance to play for United for a reason that Amorim will appreciate today.
“For a lot of players, the desire for money and a big club takes over, that’s why I think it’s better to take a smaller step first and build yourself up gradually,’ Šeško said in 2023 while signing for Leipzig.

“That way you get minutes, keep developing, and eventually reach the top level when you’re truly ready.”

Šeško is clearly a player who appreciates having the time to develop away from a major European club, instead learning his trade at sides such as Salzburg and Leipzig, before making his leap to the Premier League and Old Trafford.
Although he is 22 instead of 26, much like Cunha and Mbeumo, Šeško has earned his move to United through hard work and consistency, having played his way up the European football pyramid before now choosing to secure his move to Old Trafford.
