Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster predicts a big up-turn for Manchester United and predicts a promising league finish after a successful transfer window
Manchester United will kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday when they host Arsenal at Old Trafford ahead of Ruben Amorim’s first full season in charge at the club.
There can be promising signs to be taken from pre-season, going unbeaten in the Premier League Summer Series, and beating Fiorentina at Old Trafford last Saturday.
Having spent big this summer, bringing in a brand new forward line, there will be pressure on Amorim and his side to hit the ground running as they look for a drastic improvement on their disappointing 15th place finish last term.
Former goalkeeper Ben Foster is optimistic on United’s season, emphasising that there are a multitude of promising signs that can be taken from their summer transfer window.
Ben Foster’s prediction for United’s season
In a season predictions video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Foster explained that he is excited by United’s business, bringing in Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
“I love United’s transfer window so far. I’ve absolutely loved it. I think it’s taken them and changed from another mid-table disappointing season to genuinely looking alongside Newcastle and Villa this year.
“It’s going to be really interesting. I’ll put it out there, if United get off to a good start, a very good start, United can finish fifth this season.
“If they get another goalkeeper in, if Emi Martinez signed for Man United, they will finish fifth this season.”
United need a strong start to the season
In United first five league fixtures, they will face Arsenal, Chelsea, and rivals Manchester City in what will be a difficult opening run of games for United.
Foster believes that if United beat Arsenal on the opening day, it would envoke a strong reaction from fans and media, and some momentum could be built.

“If they beat Arsenal first game of the season, you’re going, ‘United are back’.”
He was adamant that United have strengthened the squad with excellent players, and will put them in good stead for what will be a crucial season.
“I love the players they’ve signed, Sesko looks like he’s got bundles, Cunha and Mbeumo, I love them two anyway, energy to burn.”
