Cristiano Ronaldo has completely agreed with former Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes before the pair face Denmark in a crucial Portugal clash.

Denmark edged past Portugal in the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final, claiming a narrow victory courtesy of a late goal from Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot featured in the starting lineup for Portugal, while Christian Eriksen started for Denmark.

Højlund and Patrick Dorgu were introduced from the bench, with the United striker delivering the decisive moment to give Denmark the upper hand going into the second leg.

The return fixture takes place on Sunday evening, with Denmark hoping to pull off a major upset by defending their slim advantage while Portugal hope to provide a much-improved performance.

Fernandes sends Portugal message ahead of Denmark second-leg

Fernandes and his Portuguese teammates have been heavily criticised by the media outlets in their country due to their first-leg display.

However, while the United captain admitted it was a poor performance, he believes that it is “not worrying at all” ahead of the all-important second leg.

Fernandes, who has become a crucial player for Roberto Martínez’s side in recent years, is confident that Portugal have the ability to win the tie and progress to the semi-finals.

“I think it was a little lack of aggressiveness,” Fernandes explained as quoted by Ojogo. “We didn’t make good use of the space that Denmark left.

“We are always aware of what we are capable of doing. It’s not worrying at all, but it’s a lesson of what we have to do differently in the next game.

“The results do not change the confidence of this team, nor what is the ability we have to win games and we will do everything to win the next game.”

Ronaldo completely agrees with Fernandes’ Portugal message

This is a message that Cristiano Ronaldo completely agreed with when he was speaking with the media ahead of the second-leg on Sunday evening.

While the United legend admitted that the first-leg was a “bad day”, he also believes that the tenseness of the tie is what makes the sport “beautiful” and hopes that his team can come away with a victory.

“The air is more tense. I’m not hiding it,” Ronaldo told reporters on Saturday. “We’re in a tense moment because we need to win, but that’s the beautiful thing about football.

“Tomorrow, I’m calling on the fans to be with us. Let them give us their strength, because we’re going to try to do our best.

“I’ve lost games in 90 minutes, but I’ve never lost in the first leg. There are games like that, there are bad days. I didn’t play at all the other day, the team didn’t play at all, but it’s part of life.

“There’s no need to be nervous. The past is the past. I know there are a lot of people who want us to lose, but if the few who are there are united and have good energy, I’m sure we’ll get a great result tomorrow.”
