Bastian Schweinsteiger has explained how he wants Bayern Munich to sign a ‘very interesting’ star but his other former club Manchester United are the ones who are interested in the player.
Manchester United signed Bastian Schweinsteiger in the summer of 2015 and the German midfielder spent two years at Old Trafford.
Even though his time at United was less than inspiring, Schweinsteiger has built a strong relationship with the Premier League club since his retirement.
The ex-Bayern Munich captain is the only German player to have played for United but that could possibly change soon as United are linked with several Bundesliga stars.
As the Reds look to improve their quality in midfield, there have been several links with VfB Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller due to his impressive performances in Germany.
Schweinsteiger wants Bayern Munich to sign “very interesting” star
Stiller, 24, came through at Bayern Munich’s academy but did not make his first-team debut before departing to join TSG Hoffenheim in 2021.
After impressing there, the midfielder earned a £5 million move to Stuttgart and he has only continued his development under Sebastian Hoeneß.
Schweinsteiger has recently expressed his desire for Bayern to re-sign the midfielder. “Angelo is a very interesting player. I would very much like to see him back at FC Bayern,” he said, as per Sport Witness.
However, United have been linked with Stiller more than Bayern in recent months and they may also have an advantage in the deal if they pursue the midfielder.
Why United could have Stiller advantage
We are often used to seeing the top talents in Germany flock to the Allianz Arena but that might not be the case for Stiller, who has admitted he would like to move outside of his home country.
Speaking earlier this year, the young midfielder stated: “Basically, I’m drawn to playing abroad at some point. I thought Florian Wirtz’s decision to go to Liverpool was cool.”
While Bayern are certainly in a better position than United right now, Stiller could also be attracted by the lack of midfield depth at Old Trafford right now. He would almost be guaranteed regular football if he made the move.
On the other hand, Stiller is not the only midfielder United are interested in and reports suggest the likes of Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba may be ahead of him for when the Reds move to improve their midfield next year.
