According to a new report, Athletic Club have set their sights on one of Manchester United’s Academy stars just hours after Rúben Amorim’s side hit them for four at Old Trafford.
Manchester United reached the Europa League final with a 4-1 win over Athletic Club at Old Trafford, finishing the tie with a 7-1 aggregate score.
Despite a strong advantage from the first leg, United started slowly and conceded early to a well-taken goal by Mikel Jauregizar. Alejandro Garnacho missed a chance to level before the break, and United went into half-time trailing on the night.
In the second half, Rúben Amorim introduced Amad, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount. The changes helped shift the momentum, with Mount scoring a curling equaliser before Casemiro headed in United’s second. Rasmus Højlund added a third, and Mount finished the game with a long-range strike to complete the win.
United will now face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, which takes place on 21 May in Bilbao.
Athletic Club looking to poach Musa from United
Just hours after United decimated Athletic Club’s defence across two legs, news has emerged from Spain that the side are eyeing a move for one of United’s Academy stars this summer.
According to AS, the La Liga side have set their sights on United’s Academy striker Victor Musa, who has 15 goals in 18 U18 Premier League games this season, including six during a 13-1 demolition job over Leeds United.
Musa, who AS claims is viewed as United’s answer to Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, was born in Tudela, northern Spain. Athletic Club is said to see him as a player who would adapt quickly to Ernesto Valverde’s philosophy and grow into an attacking force in Bilbao.
Beyond the interest from the La Liga side, the Spanish Football Federation is said to be keen on securing his national future with Spain, as he is also eligible to play for both England and Nigeria.
Musa is not United’s most exciting Academy prospect
While Musa’s goal record cannot be argued, the 18-year-old is not top of the list when it comes to those being produced by the club’s Academy.
Bendito Mantato recently put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at the club, while those such as Chido Obi, Harry Amass, and Tyler Fredricson have all made their recent debuts under Amorim.
While Musa is no doubt a talented young striker, he is low on the pecking order of those in line to make their debuts at United, although AS reports that it is still the player’s “dream” to play for the Old Trafford first-team.
Should he put his mind to it, Musa can certainly achieve his debut at United, but he has an uphill battle to face if he wants to become a regular player under Amorim across the next few seasons.
