Aston Villa have reportedly been offered two Manchester United players in exchange for Rúben Amorim signing Emi Martínez this summer.
Manchester United seem to be closing on signing a new goalkeeper in the final days of the summer transfer window, but it remains unclear who this will be.
The club have long been in talks with Royal Antwerp over Senne Lammens. However, conflicting reports have ultimately concluded that negotiations have not been as straightforward as initially hoped, with a free and personal terms yet to be agreed.
Amid United’s need for a new goalkeeper, news broke on Sunday morning that the club had reentered the race for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez, who is reportedly desperate to sign for the Old Trafford club.
However, after a loan move for the Argentina international was rejected earlier this summer, United are still trying to secure a final agreement with Villa after signing off on personal terms with the player.
Villa offered Onana through intermediaries
If the 33-year-old were to sign for United this summer, Villa would need to replace him, and according to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, one of these is shot-stopper André Onana, who is the likely candidate that Martínez would replace.
“Aston Villa are aware of Manchester United’s fresh interest in Emi Martinez,” Bailey told TBR Football. “They don’t want to lose him, but I can confirm that they are looking at other options.
“We always knew United wanted a new number one – we know they are talking to Senne Lammens, but he is not necessarily due to come straight in as number one.
“Should Martinez come in, as we previously revealed, United would sanction a loan move for André Onana.”
“We understand Onana has been offered to Villa by intermediaries, but as it stands, they have shown an inclination to move for him.
“Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega has been linked, along with Porto’s highly rated Diogo Costa.”
Villa have the chance to take Sancho
However, Onana is not the only player who could be heading the other way. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks have also been held surrounding the potential of Jadon Sancho heading to Villa Park in exchange.
When speaking about United’s negotiations with the Birmingham outfit, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that “Aston Villa and Manchester United also discussed about Jadon Sancho.
“Sancho is still at Manchester United, still not making any decision on his future,” Romano continued to explain on his YouTube channel. “He needs to find a solution, and Aston Villa asked about the situation of Sancho.
“In January, it was February, they closed the deal on deadline day for Marcus Rashford, Aston Villa from Manchester United. Very good relationship between the two clubs and now discussing about Sancho. So Sancho could be the new Rashford for Aston Villa.”
Sancho has had multiple offers this summer from AS Roma, Juventus, Turkey, and the Saudi Pro League but is yet to sign off on any. However, it’s thought that his exit from Old Trafford remains a relative certainty, even if it means he heads to Turkey or Saudi Arabia after the English deadline passes.
