Casemiro’s excellent form this season continued into Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Fulham, with Ashley Young praising the Brazilian midfielder for his excellent assist.
Manchester United edged out Fulham in a gripping Premier League encounter on Sunday, as Benjamin Šeško struck late to clinch a dramatic 3–2 victory.
United set the tempo early, with Amad and Harry Maguire both forcing saves, while Senne Lammens was called into action to thwart Fulham at the other end. The breakthrough came just before the 20-minute mark, when Casemiro rose at the back post to head home Bruno Fernandes’ inviting delivery.
The home side carried a 1–0 advantage into half-time, but Fulham emerged with renewed energy after the restart. Cunha extended United’s lead with a fine strike, though Raúl Jiménez quickly responded by converting a penalty he had won himself. As stoppage time unfolded, Kevin produced a stunning effort to draw Fulham level.
Just when it seemed the points would be shared, substitute Šeško delivered the decisive moment, firing in a late winner to seal the win. The result maintained Michael Carrick’s flawless start in charge, with three wins from three keeping United firmly in the top four.
Casemiro lauded for his excellent assist
After struggling for form last season, Casemiro has cemented himself as a key cog in Michael Carrick’s side, as he looks back to his best, partnering Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield.
The Brazilian notched his fifth goal of the season with a great headed finish, the most goals he has scored in a Premier League season since joining from Real Madrid.
While the goal was impressive, the 33-year-old’s assist to set up Cunha’s goal to put the side 2-0 up was sublime, pulling off an excellent no-look pass to play through his Brazil teammate, who rocketed his shot into the roof of the net.
Ashley Young was full of praise for Casemiro’s assist after the game, saying, “Yeah, it was fantastic. And, you know, we’ve been talking about Casemiro’s pass, the no-look pass, you know.”
On whether Young knew if the midfielder was capable of such an assist, he said, “I didn’t, but he’s got Brazilian flair, so he has definitely got it in his locker. And, you know, the way he’s playing with confidence, and, you know, when you play passes like that, it comes off fantastically well. And the finish was unbelievable.”
Carrick’s system could facilitate record-breaking assist tally
Bruno Fernandes has been the club’s focal point since making the switch from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, often being the deciding factor on whether United win or lose games.
Despite this, in Rúben Amorim’s tactical setup, the club’s captain was deployed much deeper, making up the midfield pivot rather than being a No.10.

While his goal-scoring prowess dipped slightly under Amorim, his assisting ability remained, picking up seven assists before Amorim was sacked at the start of January.
He has enjoyed a new lease of life further up the pitch under both Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick, assisting five times in four games, with two of them coming against Fulham.
The Portuguese maestro currently sits on 12 assists this season, with the record for most assists standing at 20, set by legendary forward Thierry Henry in the 2002/03 season.
Despite not registering his first assist until the 19th of October in United’s win over Liverpool at Anfield, Fernandes has, on average, assisted 0.57 times per game, and if that was to continue for the remainder of the season, the 31-year-old is projected to assist 22 times, a new Premier League record.
