Manchester United sent Antony on loan to La Liga side Real Betis in the January transfer window and he has started brilliantly in Spain.

Antony has made four appearances for Real Betis since his arrival towards the end of January.

The Manchester United loanee started well, winning the Man of the Match on his debut in a 2-2 draw against Athletic Club. He was involved in the opener, seeing his parried shot swept home by Isco.

Since then, Antony has made three further appearances and won two more Man of the Match awards. In those games, the 24-year-old has three goals and one assist.

His best display came last weekend in a 3-0 demolition of Real Sociedad, with the United loanee scoring and assisting in the clash.

The player’s goal was sublime, hitting the ball on the volley after the the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, opening the scoring early in the second half.

With four goal contributions for Betis in as many games, Antony is only one goal behind matching his entire tally last season at United – three goals and two assists in 38 appearances.

Antony explains strong Betis start

United fans are not overly concerned about Antony excelling away from Old Trafford and most are hoping that it can add some value to his price before the summer.

However, it is interesting to see the 24-year-old start so well after his struggles at United, with his form even earning praise from Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.

Antony has explained that his happiness in Spain is a large contributor to his form, but he has also importantly clarified that he is not making any targets in terms of goals and assists this season.

“The most important thing is to be happy and I am very happy at Real Betis. Things happen naturally,” the winger explained.

“I do not set a specific number of goals. I continue working hard, enjoying myself and concentrating every day. Let’s keep going like this.”

Antony’s promise at United hugely backfired

Of course, that is in direct contrast to how Antony started the season with United after a poor campaign last year.

Ahead of the 2024/25 season, the Brazilian promised that fans would see him securing goals and assists for the club, which did not happen.

“Rest assured, you’ll hear the name Antony in relation to goals and assists,” he said in August last year before scoring just once, in the Carabao Cup, before his loan move in January.

Instead of taking things step by step and ensuring his overall form was right, Antony wanted to make a bang after underwhelming, which was unrealistic and backfired for him.

Now, at Betis, he is taking things slowly, ensuring that he is happy while playing and it seems like things are coming more naturally for him, even if it is in an easier division than the Premier League.
