One Manchester United loanee has been praised for his performance during an “incredible” debut for his new club last week.

Manchester United’s 2025 winter transfer window has come under intense scrutiny from fans after the club failed to strengthen key areas of Rúben Amorim’s squad.

Defensive reinforcements arrived in the form of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, but the lack of attacking signings has sparked frustration among supporters.

Meanwhile, three first-team forwards—Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley—left on loan, along with several Academy players who moved in search of regular game time.

One positive note is the signing of promising left-back Diego Leon, who will officially join United on 1 July after completing his season with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.

Antony praised for having “magic”

Antony departed Old Trafford last month on a loan deal to Real Betis for the remainder of the season, with the Brazilian winger having no clear place in United’s starting XI.

After a full week of training in Manuel Pellegrini’s team, Antony then started for the club against Athletic Club and was involved almost immidiaetly.

The player cut inside from the right winger and had a pop at goal after 15 minutes, with the ball being spilt by Unai Simon back into the path of Isco, who finished the goal off. Although the tie ended at 2-2, Antony was handed the Man of the Match award for his efforts across 72 minutes.

Speaking after the game, left-back Perraud felt the need to praise Antony for his performance, saying: “Antony is a very good teammate. He played a great debut – he provides a very important support for us. He has magic.”

Antony reacts to “incredible” Betis debut

Antony himself was delighted with making his debut for Betis after a tough 18 months at Old Trafford, explaining that he is eager to improve.

“Very happy and pleased with the first game. The fans were incredible. A little sad about the draw,” Antony told LALIGA TV after the game.

“I felt really good and excited. I was waiting all week for this match. It’s important to me that the team is doing well.

“The manager told me to stay calm. He’s a great coach. Concentration on set pieces is important. We have to improve this.”
