Manchester United loanee Antony spoke to the media after netting his first goal for Real Betis in a 3-2 defeat against Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon.

Antony moved to Real Betis on loan last month after it became clear he would not be used at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.

Since signing for the club in the summer of 2022 for a huge £85 million, Antony has disappointed at Old Trafford and that has seen his value drop exponentially.

The club agreed to loan the Brazilian to the La Liga club in order for him to help turn his career around, and in turn potentially generate interest in him ahead of the summer window.

Antony started his spell in Spain very well after receiving the Man of the Match on his debut last weekend.

His second appearance also started brilliantly, with the 24-year-old scoring the opener in the clash against Celta Vigo just 10 minutes into the game.

The United loanee found a pocket of space inside the box and managed to guide his effort into the far corner to give his side the lead in the game.

Soon afterwards, Diego Llorente managed to give Betis a two-goal lead after a powerful header after a set-piece routine.

However, things completely turned around in the second half and Celta Vigo scored two quick-fire goals shortly after the 60th minute mark to level the game.

In the 87th minute, Williot Swedberg secured the comeback win for Celta Vigo as they ended up winning the game 3-2, leaving Antony and Betis frustrated.

Antony would have been pleased to continue his good personal start to his Betis career but he was far from happy with the result.

The Brazilian winger claimed that his new team needs to “change mentality” in order to avoid a repeat of the situation in the future.

“It’s hard to understand,” explained Antony when speaking to the media after Betis lost all three points.

“We started the game very well and scored two goals, but we have to change our mentality. We scored two but we have to be focused throughout the game.

“Now we have to work to improve. We have to start the game well, but also finish it well.”
