Brazil Police release statement on Antony following domestic abuse allegations
Be advised: the following content is of a sensitive and violent nature.
The Civil Police of São Paulo have released a statement surrounding Manchester United winger Antony following accusations of domestic abuse last year.
Last summer, Manchester United and Brazilian winger Antony was accused by his ex-partner Gabriela Cavallin back in June, although he denies that any physical abuse ever occurred.
It is claimed that in one specific incident, Antony head-butted Cavallin, cutting her scalp. Then, it is described that he grabbed her and threw her hard onto a bed, falling on top of her.
This allegedly caused her breast implants to become dislodged, which then required her to undergo reconstructive surgery.
However, Globo have now reported that on Monday, the Civil Police of São Paulo concluded their investigation and ruled that, due to a lack of sufficient evidence supporting the claims.
When contacted by the reporters, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) confirmed the investigation’s conclusion but did not provide details.
“The case was processed under confidentiality. More information should be requested from the courts,” reads an excerpt from the department’s statement.
However, Globo also clarified that while the São Paulo investigation is now complete, the one taking place in England is still ongoing.
While the victim alleged that Antony attacked her in Brazil, she also stated that one attack took place in England, meaning a separate investigation was launched by the Greater Manchester Police.
“The final investigation report, which concludes the inquiry, will be sent for analysis by the Brazilian Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) and the Brazilian Justice Department,” Globo’s report also explained.
“The document contains the accusation made by Gabriela Silva Simon Cavallin and the interrogation of Antony Matheus dos Santos, in addition to the statements of 19 witnesses (among them are those who testified in favour of the victim and others who defended the person under investigation).”
