“Isn’t normal…” Angel Gomes sends Manchester United fans a message about Leny Yoro
Former Manchester United academy star Angel Gomes has send fans a message about Leny Yoro, the latest man to sign for the Old Trafford club.
Manchester United are poised to announce the signing of 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro in the coming days, having successfully outmaneuvered Real Madrid for his signature.
Erik ten Hag and his staff have been actively seeking centre-half reinforcements this summer after a challenging 2023/24 season where the team conceded over eighty goals in all competitions and finished eighth in the Premier League.

Needing to bolster their defence, United took a strategic gamble on the highly-touted 18-year-old defender, who had been expected to join Real Madrid.
In a surprising turn of events on Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that the club persuaded Yoro to travel to Manchester for his medical and to agree to a five-year contract until 2029, with an optional one-year extension.
Yoro is scheduled to complete his final medical examinations on Thursday morning and will sign his contract in the afternoon, sealing his £52 million transfer from Lille.
Angel Gomes, one of Yoro’s teammates at Lille, knows what it’s like to play as a teenager at United, having made his debut for the club at the young age of 16. Speaking earlier this year, Gomes explained how the 18-year-old’s temprement is way above what would be expected of his age.
“Leny, from when he first came up, I knew directly that he was going to go to the top,” he told Eurosport. “When I was at Manchester United as a 16-year-old I understood what it was like to be around first team players but he has a different type of temperament.
“And his temperament isn’t normal or the same as a 16-year-old or 17-year-old coming in. It’s almost like he’s a senior pro, the way he trained and the way he conducted himself and everything. It was easy to see how things could only progress for him.
“He played a lot last season and he’s almost started every game this season and been influential for us. He’s not even the type of player where I can say, ‘if he keeps his feet on the ground etc.’ because his feet are already on the ground and the type of kid he is, he can only go on to have a great future.”
Former Lille manager Paulo Fonseca, who recently depearted the club to take a job at AC Milan, agreed with Gomes, explaing that he feels Yoro has big future in European football. “I believe Leny in the next year will be at one of the best clubs in Europe,” Fonseca said earlier this year.
“He started here at 16 with us. He is very ambitious but very disciplined. “He grew a lot but he is a kid with a big maturity, with big quality. He’s very focused and very concentrated, he wants to learn every day. I have no doubt in modern football he will be one of the best central defenders in the world.”
