Ange Postecoglou has included James Maddison as Tottenham travel to Bilbao to face Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday.
Manchester United have their sights set on the Europa League final, where they’ll go head-to-head with Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday night.
While Rúben Amorim’s side have endured a dreadful run in the Premier League—failing to win any of their last eight matches—their European campaign has been a thrilling contrast.
United advanced from the league phase in third place before cruising past Real Sociedad with a 5-2 aggregate win, sparked by a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick in the second leg.
The quarter-finals delivered unforgettable drama. After a 2-2 draw away to Lyon, United experienced a whirlwind at Old Trafford—racing into a 2-0 lead, falling behind 4-2, then roaring back with three goals in seven minutes from Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire.
In the semi-finals, they made light work of Athletic Club, winning 3-0 in Bilbao and 4-1 in Manchester. Now, only Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs stand between them and a European triumph.
Maddison back in Tottenham squad vs United
Earlier this month, it was supposedly confirmed that Spurs talisman James Maddison could not play in the Europa League final after suffering a knee injury.
However, a video released from Tottenham’s official social media channels noted that the English midfielder was part of the Spurs’ travelling party that departs for Bilbao later this week.
Beyond Maddison, centre-back Micky van de Ven, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, and striker Dominic Solanke, who has a good record against United, were also part of the team.
Despite concerns about Pape Sarr after he was withdrawn early against Aston Villa with a back issue, the Senegalese midfielder was also spotted as part of the 21-man team on the club’s video.
A full squad list of those spotted has been detailed below, although it’s thought that more may have travelled and not been spotted in the video.
