Ange Postecoglou launches bizarre rant about Ruben Amorim comments as Manchester United vs Spurs final confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou launched a bizarre rant on Thursday night after it was confirmed his side will face Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Manchester United secured their return to Bilbao for the Europa League final after a 7-1 win on aggregate over Athletic Club, with the scoreline being 4-1 at Old Trafford this week.

The Reds went behind in the first half but managed to score four in the second period with Mason Mount netting an incredible brace, while Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund also scored.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 in the second-leg of their own semi-final tie against Bodø/Glimt, securing a 5-1 win on aggregate against the Norwegian outfit.

The two English clubs will meet in the final later this month, with the game having so much on the line due to both teams having terrible Premier League campaigns.

Postecoglou launches bizarre rant towards Amorim comments

Spurs and United both sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They do not only need to win this competition to secure Champions League qualification, but also to give something back to their respective fanbases after their torrid season.

Amorim has continued to suggest that winning the Europa League would not fix the issues at Old Trafford and it would not turn the season into a success.

“Europa League will not change anything in our problems – it’s going to help us to have Champions League next year, more money to spend, but the problems are still there,” Amorim recently explained.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about those kind of comments from the Portuguese head coach after his win on Thursday night, and whether he shared the same stance.

The Australian took the question personally and launched a bizarre rant in the press conference room, where he questioned why he would care about Amorim’s comments and that it was being made to try and “diminish” Spurs’ potential success.

“What do I care what Man United think? Why is that relevant to me? Ask the Man United manager why he says that, me, I’ve said all along that this is important,” Postecoglou replied.

“You know better than me [how much this means to Spurs], you follow this club more than I have. What do you think a trophy would do for this club?

“What’s happening right now is people are fearing that it might actually happen. They’re trying to tear it down and diminish it somehow by saying it’s been a poor season and we don’t deserve this or that and try to compare us to Man United.”

United have to be at their best vs Spurs

Every now and then it seems like a moment from Postecoglou’s press conferences go viral on social media because he takes something so personally.

Maybe there are different standards, but sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League is a travesty for United and Amorim is right to have the stance that silverware in Europe won’t save the season.

Despite his strange rant, you also have to say that Postecoglou has had the better of United several times since he became Spurs boss and the Reds need to be at their best to win the final later this month.

If they do so, there will be great excitement at the club. But like Amorim says, it won’t make the season a success, and improvements will have to come next term.
