André Onana confirms reports surrounding Rúben Amorim’s first Manchester United decision
André Onana has confirmed reports surrounding what will be Rúben Amorim’s first decision as Manchester United’s head coach.
Manchester United notched their first Europa League win of the season with a 2-0 victory over PAOK, thanks to a brace from Amad Diallo on Thursday night.
The first half at Old Trafford was subdued, with Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro, and Rasmus Højlund each coming close but unable to find the back of the net.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when United’s No. 16 rose to meet a Bruno Fernandes cross, sending a perfectly placed looping header into the goal to give United a vital lead.
Fifteen minutes later, Diallo secured the win in style. The Ivorian international muscled Abdul Baba off the ball in the final third, then cut onto his left foot and curled a stunning shot beyond Dominik Kotarski, sealing United’s hard-earned victory.
Onana confirms reports
United’s win over PAOK is the third of four games Ruud van Nistelrooy will command as interim head coach, and there is a high level of speculation surrounding whether the Dutchman will continue at United following his spell at the helm.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that United’s players would like the 48-year-old to stay at United beyond this week, and André Onana has confirmed this.
When TNT Sports asked Onana and the players what they would like to see Van Nistelrooy say, Onana replied: “100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach. Since he’s here, he’s helping us a lot.
“He has so much experience, and he advises us a lot. He’s doing amazing since he’s here, you know. Obviously, we have him [for] a few days as a head coach. He’s different, but he’s doing amazing. It’s fantastic what he’s doing, and players are happy.
“But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide. The club made the decision and we have to accept it. But this has to be between him and the club because at the end of the day, they are the ones who have to sit at the table and decide what is best for the club.”
Amorim’s first big decision
Rúben Amorim, who will join United next week as the club’s new head coach, will be the one who decides Van Nistelrooy’s long-term fate at the club.
The Dutchman has a two-year deal with United, but Amorim is set to bring multiple new staff members, with the futures of the current coaches at Carrington hanging in the balance.
The pair are set to meet next week once the 39-year-old arrives at Carrington, and they will no doubt work together to see if a role for the former United striker can be found. But, Van Nistelrooy’s future will be his first big decision before Amorim meets his new players.
