André Onana has named a Manchester United target alongside Lisandro Martínez as a player who has had a big influence on his career.

André Onana‘s first season at Manchester United has been a tale of two halves. His career in red had a tragic start, with the goalkeeper making several crucial errors that led to the club getting knocked out of the Champions League.

However, during the second half of the campaign, Onana was one of United’s best players, giving consistency in goal that led to the club’s FA Cup final trophy on the final day of the domestic season.

Onana signed from Serie A club Inter Milan for £45 million to replace David de Gea at Erik ten Hag’s specific request, with the pair having worked together at Ajax a few seasons prior.

The Cameroon international is a big personality and voice in every dressing room he is a part of,

In a question-and-answer session with United fans, Onana was asked which former teammate has had the biggest influence on his career so far.

Onana decided to name fellow United player Martínez as one of them while also highlighting the impact that United-linked right-back Denzel Dumfries as another.

“Well, normally I’m the one who has influence on other players because I have a big personality and I’m someone who’s very positive,” Onana told club media in a reply to the question.

“I like to have a good connection with people. But in the past also, I had good team-mates. I had people who helped me when I was in a bad mood, when I was a little bit down.

“I will say, last season in Inter, it was Denzel Dumfries. We had a very good connection. In Ajax, Bertrand Traoré. Lisandro Martínez, when he was there (Ajax), was just top.”

Dumfries has been linked to United many times across the last few seasons, with the club potentially looking to sign a new right-back this summer. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot are the current competitors for the position, and the former has been linked with a move away.

With United needing to raise funds, Wan-Bissaka has been touted as a sellable asset that could command a substantial fee this summer.
