One “ambitious” star has responded to criticism after his Manchester United exit earlier this summer as Fabrizio Romano has confirmed his new club.
Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer window, with the club bringing in five signings for Ruben Amorim’s squad.
The additions of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško and Bryan Mbeumo will bolster the attack while Senne Lammens and Diego Leon improve the quality of depth at the back.
Importantly, there have also been plenty of exits. Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Rasmus Højlund and Jadon Sancho have all left on permanent or loan deals. André Onana and Tyrell Malacia could soon join them through the exit door with the Turkish transfer window still open.
Those departures followed on from the early summer exits of Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf, who all departed at the end of their contracts in June.
Eriksen criticised by Danish icon
Lindelöf secured a deadline day switch to Aston Villa while Evans is now working in the loans department at Old Trafford.
Eriksen, on the other hand, ended the transfer window still without a club and he was pictured training with Swedish club Malmo last week, which sparked rumours about a potential transfer.
Although those rumours were quickly rubbished, Danish icon Thomas Gravesen was still critical of Eriksen and his perceived lack of ambition with that move.
“It is incomprehensible to me that he chooses Malmo,” he said in a recent interview with Fotboll Skanalen. “It is not a club that he can go to because he cannot sign a contract with them and we have some clubs in Denmark that are much, much better than Malmo.
“This looks like a friendly thing, where Christian Eriksen is over and having fun with some friends. Where is the ambition to play football?
“We talk about him being without a club for three months, but he has been without a club since January because he has been able to sign a contract with a new club ever since. He has been dragging his feet on it for a long time.”
Eriksen responds to United exit criticism
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Christian Eriksen is on his way to Germany to join Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
The Danish midfielder has travelled to undergo his medical and finalize paperwork with the club, securing another season in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
The move essentially responds to Gravesen’s recent criticism, with Eriksen showing he is determined to continue performing at the highest level.
Earlier this year, Eriksen’s agent emphasised that his client remains ‘ambitious’, and this Wolfsburg transfer is clear proof of that.
