Amad has likened one of his teammates to a Manchester United legend following his recent Premier League heroics against Chelsea.
Manchester United earned their second Premier League win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford, as Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro struck in a rain-soaked evening clash.
United started strongly and gained the upper hand when Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was dismissed for fouling Bryan Mbeumo after just five minutes.
Fernandes opened the scoring soon after with his 100th club goal, before Casemiro doubled the lead with a header. The Brazilian was then sent off just before half-time, leaving both sides with ten men.
United introduced Manuel Ugarte for Benjamin Šeško in the second half, and the visitors failed to make a breakthrough until the closing stages, when Trevoh Chalobah nodded in from a Reece James cross. Despite late pressure, United’s defence held firm to seal three valuable points.
Amad full of praise for United’s Dorgu
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has had a fast start to life at United. Following his £25 million move from Lecce in January, the 20-year-old has started the majority of the club’s fixtures as both a left and right wing-back.
Against Chelsea, the Dane, who had just come off the back of a “dangerous” performance with his national side, was finally able to grab his first goal involvement with the club as he assisted Fernandes’ opening goal.
Following this, United star winger Amad took to Instagram to comment under Dorgu’s post-match post with the phrase “Patrice Dorgu Evra” followed by a heart eyes emoji.
At the same time, Harry Maguire provided two clapping emojis, and Fernandes himself stated “love it kid” with a bicep emoji.
Patrice Evra, of course, is one of United’s most successful-ever left-backs. Joining the club in 2006, the Frenchman went on to win five Premier League titles, three EFL Cups, and the Champions League before leaving for Juventus in 2014.
Dorgu’s competition could increase next month
Dorgu is United’s only senior player at left-wing back for the moment, but with Lisandro Martínez set to return in the coming weeks, this could have a knock-on effect.
SO far this season, Luke Shaw has been operating as the side’s left centre-back, but once Martínez is fit to start, it’s expected he will retain his place in the starting XI, leaving Shaw to the side.
The England centre-back has been strong in his words of late that he sees himself playing as a left wing-back more than in the back three. “Currently, I’m playing left centre-back and I’m content, but I still see myself more of a wing-back,” Shaw told Sky Sports earlier this month.
“The manager knows this, but he’s the one who decides. I’m happy to play anywhere.”
When Martínez returns, it’s feasible that the Argentina international becomes the new first-choice left centre-back with Ayden Heaven his deputy, while Shaw, in turn, becomes competition for Dorgu on the left flank.
