Former Manchester United defender Mikaël Silvestre has explained that Facundo Pellistri and Anthony Elanga should take inspiration from the successes of Amad Diallo on loan.

After joining Sunderland on loan for the season from Manchester United, Amad Diallo has established himself as one of the hottest talents in the country.

His consistent quality performances in the Championship have earned praise from across the country, with him being labelled as one of the best players in the division.

Amsd has mainly operated either on the right or in a No.10 position for Sunderland. Two other players who have, at points, operated on that right-hand side are pairing Facundo Pellistri and Anthony Elanga.

Pellistri has received a plethora of praise from both fans and Erik ten Hag alike, with many suggesting that he should start against Real Betis on Thursday. Elanga’s breakthrough season came 12 months ago when the player impressed Ralf Rangnick enough for the interim manager to veto his loan move in January in 2022.

Despite this, the pair have seen limited minutes under Ten Hag so far this season.

Speaking to bettingexpert.com, Silvestre has explained that in order to develop further as players, the two forwards should use the blueprint created by Amad to force their way into future selection conversations.

“When you go on loan, you have to make it count,” he said. “So for Pellistri and Elanga, it’s about making the right choice, the right manager, because I think there will be several options.

“Right now yeah, the game time is limited so a loan option is a good one.”

Silvestre’s point about making sure the loan moves are the correct destination is a valid one – Amad’s loan to Sunderland was the perfect destination to continue his development.

“So it’s important that they make it count when they go on loan and play as much as possible to progress and have a go at starting the following season,” he continued.

“They need to have a successful loan like Amad Diallo has been having.”

Much like Amad who joined Rangers at the beginning of 2022, Pellistri has been on loan before – he spent a year and a half at the Spanish side Deportivo Alavés. Although the loan had mixed results, a better destination may prove more fruitful.

The club are reportedly thinking of engineering a loan move for Pellistri this summer.

In Elanga’s case, a loan would provide the young Swede with a chance to hone his skills and nail down a position where he is able to collect consistent minutes.
