Amad Diallo reveals surprise Man United role this season, it’s a big development
Amad Diallo has revealed a surprise role that he has taken up at Manchester United ahead of the new season.
Amad, 22, has been United’s standout player during pre-season and is expected to start against Fulham in the club’s opening Premier League fixture.
The Ivorian winger scored two brilliant goals across the friendly games and also delivered an excellent performance against Manchester City in the Community Shield defeat on the weekend.
Erik ten Hag started to bring him into the team towards the back end of last season following an underwhelming campaign from Antony on the right flank.
Now, it seems that Amad will be the first-choice right winger to start the new season against Fulham this Friday.
However, the 22-year-old has also admitted that he is prepared to take a more prominent role off the pitch this campaign in terms of helping the academy talent who are training with the first-team squad.
“I am a young player, but I’m ready to help the younger academy players,” he told club media. “For me, this season is important to step up and do my best on and off the pitch.”
While Amad is just 22 years of age, this is going to be his fifth season at the club. He was often seen with the younger players from the academy in pre-season.
It is a surprising yet promising development for the wide player, whose ability on the ball is unquestionable—but you can never get enough leaders in the dressing room.
With the amount of young talent coming through at Carrington, as well, it is great to have players like Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad close to them.
Amad added: “The FA Cup win [last season] gave us confidence. We were happy to win the trophy. We are a big team; we need to fight for everything, for trophies. That’s why we fight for the badge.”
“I want to say thanks to everyone for the love, I appreciate that. I promise I will do my best on the pitch to repay the confidence of everyone.”
