Amad Diallo and one other Manchester United star have been told they have the ‘vital ingredient’ to build a strong relationship under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United fell to a 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest in their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

The match started poorly for United as Nikola Milenkovic headed in from a corner, leaving André Onana helpless.

Amorim’s side responded well, dominating the first half, and Rasmus Højlund equalised shortly before the 20-minute mark.

However, defensive issues plagued United again in the second half, conceding early and then falling further behind to make it 3-1 after a series of defensive mishaps.

Bruno Fernandes responded with one goal midway through the second half but the Reds were unable to find an equaliser before the final whistle.

Amorim will be looking at many areas that need improvement at Old Trafford but he will also be taking the small positives.

For example, Amad Diallo once again provided an assist in this game, making it two goals and five assists in his last five starts for United in all competitions.

Leny Yoro also started his first game for the club and held his own well, providing a mature performance at the back.

While he was beaten in the air by Chris Wood for the third goal, it should have been an easy save or clearance for Onana or Lisandro Martínez.

These two young players caught the eye of Jamie Redknapp ahead of the defeat to Forest. He thinks that they could build a strong relationship once the team is settled into the new system.

“He is exciting, he enjoys it and he’s got a real chance to establish himself in this team,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports when asked about Amad’s form as the right wingback.

“And I think as well with Yoro playing that right sided centre-back, there might even be times–when this system really starts to flourish–he can go outside of him and come inside so he can make an underlap and play him in.

“I think it’s going to be a nice relationship between these two young players.

“They’re exciting and they’ve got one vital ingredient; they’re incredibly fast as well, so it’ll be interesting to see.”
